What is SWS?

Supplemental Workshops in Science provide an accelerated learning environment for selected classes. Guided by trained facilitators, students participate in discussions, compare notes, develop study strategies and challenge their understanding with practice exams and worksheets. Because the workshops are interactive, the more students get involved, the more they learn. Workshops meet twice a week and earn one unit of academic credit.

What's in it for you?

A higher grade and a greater understanding and mastery of your lecture course materials and concepts. There is no additional homework and you are able to actively engage in the learning process with student peers.  In addition, students learn study skills methods, which assist them with other classes in the future.

All workshops are led by a peer facilitator, a student who's taken the class before and has demonstrated academic excellence in the course. Your SWS facilitator attends every class lecture, hears what you hear, and reads what you read. The facilitator's job is to guide the workshop and keep students on track with course content. Every facilitator has received training in group leadership techniques.
